Our School
Our mission at Challenger is "To provide an exemplary education that develops critical thinking and problem-solving skills which inspire our students to challenge their minds and charge their spirits." We have been doing just that since we opened our doors in 2006.
Here at Challenger, you can find students excelling academically, physically, and artistically. We offer accelerated academic programs, an emphasis on the arts, and multiple sports and clubs throughout the year.
Challenger Middle School has achieved Level 1 certification in Marzano High Reliability School, PBIS Model School Status, and was recognized as Exceeding Expectations in Student Achievement by ECTAC Florida!

Principal - Mason Clark
Originally from Pennsylvania, I began my career as a Peace Corps math teacher in Senegal and Guinea. Since settling in Southwest Florida, I have served in elementary, middle, and high schools in Collier and Lee Counties. My wife and our four children moved to Cape Coral in 2018 to be close to our extended family, and I am thrilled to serve my home community. Most recently, I led Mariner Middle. I look forward to building upon Challenger's established culture of excellence. It's going to be an outstanding 2026-2027 school year. Together, we really will "Challenge Your Mind and Charge Your Spirits!"
Assistant Principal - Carolyn Marsh
I was born and raised on the North Shore of Massachusetts before moving to Florida during my school years. I am a proud graduate of Cypress Lake High School and have been fortunate to spend my entire educational career serving students in Lee County since 2006.
My journey in education began as a teacher at Cypress Lake Middle School, where I spent eight wonderful years. I then joined Challenger Middle School, serving in a variety of teaching and leadership roles over the next nine years. Challenger played a significant role in shaping me as an educational leader and helped prepare me for my next chapter as an Assistant Principal at Mariner High School. After two rewarding years at Mariner, I was thrilled to return home to Challenger.
Outside of school, I enjoy spending time on the water—whether that’s paddleboarding, boating, or simply relaxing at the beach. I am also the proud parent of six children and a dog who keeps our family on our toes!
One of my favorite beliefs is that growth comes from striving for progress, not perfection. That mindset aligns perfectly with Challenger's commitment to being “1% Better” every day—a motto I am proud to live and support alongside our students, staff, and families.
Assistant Principal - Aaron Curls
I am a proud graduate of North Fort Myers High School, Class of 1993, and a lifelong resident of Lee County. After earning my degree at The University of South Carolina, I had the privilege of returning to my alma mater to teach for 10 years, where I developed a passion for helping students succeed both academically and personally.
For the past 12 years, I have served as Assistant Principal at Challenger Middle School, where I am committed to fostering a positive school culture, supporting teachers, and creating opportunities for every student to thrive.
Beyond my professional responsibilities, I have been happily married for 24 years and am the proud father of two exceptional children, both of whom are now pursuing their college education. I believe in the importance of strong relationships, lifelong learning, and serving the community that has shaped my life and career.
